Hello...
Thank you for coming to find out more about me, my experience and skills. I am Miriam, the Director and Founder of Mulberry Brown Communications.
I live in Nailsea in a wonky cottage with my partner, our 20 month-old daughter and our 14 year-old Jack Russell. We are partial to going on adventures in our camper van and messing about in boats, well canoes really. I love a good red, a great book, a varied playlist and proper belly laughs whenever possible.
My story...
I set up MBC in September 2025, having wanted to go free-lance for a long time, I finally made the leap and left my corporate role as UK Head of External Marketing and Comms for a global defence company. Having worked across the country for several years, I wanted to return to supporting local businesses and organisations within the Southwest and make a difference to the local economy and communities. Having a young daughter, I also wanted the opportunity to work more flexibly and to bring more creativity and variety back into my working life. I also want to work more closely and directly with clients and customers.
My USP...
I have over 25 years experience and my unique selling point (USP) is that I am a truly multi-disciplined communications professional with credible experience across marketing, communications, PR and events - so I can provide my clients with holistic, integrated support. However, I am particularly skilled at media relations, PR and crisis communications.
Previous experience...
I have worked across the UK, and in France, Germany and America. I've also worked for companies of all shapes and sizes, from small start-ups, mid-sized and growing enterprises, public sector and government, up to FTSE 250 companies. I initially started in the theatre and music industry, then moved on to luxury hotels and travel, before moving into policing.
Policing was really varied and exciting. I spent 15 years leading behaviour change campaigns, events, PR, media and high-profile crisis communications. I worked locally, regionally and nationally including alongside the Home Office, No 10, the NPCC, premiership footballers, celebrities' and influencers and the Prince's Trust. Most recently I was working for a FTSE 250 company within the defence industry.
Alongside all those roles, I have worked informally on a free-lance basis, helping charities, small businesses and sole traders establish their brand, company presence and marketing. That is why I feel well-placed to say I have a really credible, holistic offer to lots of businesses and organisations, regardless of industry or scale.
A police officer, an actress and a marketeer walked into a bar...
My career has also seen me work as a professional actress, singer and producer, a writer, model, public speaker, a warranted police officer and a teacher! That might seem quite random to some but actually they are all about the same thing - communication and story-telling! Whether that is a well-written press release, marketing campaign or website, a brilliant performance on stage, helping a student understand a concept, working with a victim, or gathering and effectively presenting evidence to achieve justice - it all comes down to psychology, great communication and providing a clear narrative.
All of my transferable skills and previous experience comes together so I can provide a truly holistic service to my clients. So whether you want to learn how to use social media to promote your small business, or you need a PR strategy to position your growing brand, public speaking training or professional coaching to get your next promotion, or help with crisis comms in an emergency - then I can help. I am flexible, adaptable and can take in and assimilate new information quickly. I always enjoy new subject matter and a challenge.
